Art has been a part of my life since childhood.

My grandmother was an oil painter and since the age of 8, I remember spending weekends with her where she set me up with an easel and brushes and showed me how to create magic.

However the magic was put on hold while I married and raised a family. In 1979 we moved to North Tahoe, but it wasn’t until 1992 when I took my first watercolor class, that I was totally hooked to the magic.

Since then I have had the privilege to attend numerous workshops by some of America’s best artists.

Twelve years ago I shifted to the medium of pastels and it has opened a new awareness of color and texture. I have participated in the international shows of the Pastel Society of the West Coast and in 2010 had the honor of becoming a signature member of this organization.
Wool Sculpture by Artist Heidi Reeves

In 2016 I began investigating a totally different medium. Sculpture.

But not your typical clay sculpture.  I explored the world of wool sculpting. More specific, needle felting. How to use clean, raw wool, wire, and barbed needles to create realistic animals, captured my imagination and since inquiring minds want to know, I Googled needle felting. To my surprise, I found many “how to” sites. So began my journey into the sculpting world. My animals are the results of that labor. Each one begins with a wire armature, but no two will ever be the same.

My love for art is truly a gift from God and when anyone sees my work or is touched emotionally through one of my paintings or animals, I feel like I’m giving that gift back to Him.

Living in Tahoe has only increased my awe of God’s creations and love and I hope that I can capture a small part of that beauty on paper, canvas and in wool.
